How much does it cost to keep a dog? (Labrador)

    Food
    Toys
    Insurance
    etc etc

I have some rough estimates but anything i should know?

    Questions
    - do dogs need a mix of dry and wet food?
    - should i adopt or buy a puppy?

    Thanks
    Bill

I don't think my parents dogs have wet food. They get dry food (but they are about 3 and 6-7 years old) and then they get things like bones.

Depending on your dog, they may not be that interested in toys. We've had dogs who have had no interest at all in toys.

    My parents own one.

    1) Labs, particularly purebred ones, are expensive, 500-600 to buy it.

    2) Labs are compulsive chewers, they chew everything as a puppy, so you will need a LOT of toys, including soft toys too.

    3) They are greedy, Labs eat a lot of food, boil rice with carrot and cheap mince, mix it with kibble, it's cheaper and better for them.

    4) Do you exercise? Better start, Labs have crazy stamina and need long walks.

    5) Labs love attention, if you ignore them. They chew.

    6) Always buy a puppy. If you adopt it may have a whole host of problems.

    7) Brush them a lot, they malt everywhere.
