Not being allowed to talk

I'm at work chatting to a friend about interesting things, he's smiling.

This slovakien girl is like making gestures in a way to give me the impression that im talking too much. I say sorry and her expression is like stop talking to me. I mention smoking and that people smoke alot in the office, shes like "so" then later on someone mentions smoking in the toilets, and she starts chatting about smoking.

So why am i not allowed to speak? am i not worthy to speak because i don't say things that interest here, even when i am talking to someone completly different to her?
is she your manager or anything above you? speak as much as you want she shouldn't control you

No because i talk while i work. But it make me think that peple that do listen are not really wanting to listen but are to nice to say it.

I actually didnt smile or talk to anyone yesterday because of this. The supervising girl said why you so quiet, i told her and she said she doesn't think i talk too much. But still how am i to know who is telling the truth if people are too nice to say?

It depends what you're talking about. If you're jabbering on about things that aren't of any interest to people (watch for glazed eyes, or not repsonding) then you're probably annoying them. My flatmate does this and it annoys the **** out of me. He will talk to me about stuff I have no interest in, purely because he wants to show me that he knows stuff. Especially when I am watching TV/reading/talking on the phone. Last night he decided to tell me about how there are different guages of something on a bike pump. ****ing brilliant. Anyway, that's off topic.

Some people find chatter disctracting - it drives my boss mad and I have had to learn not to burble on as is my usual way. Perhaps the girl is not used to working with people who talk whilst they work. What do you do?
To be honest love, it doesnt matter what other people think, if people find you annoying you would know it because they would do anything to avoid talking to you. I think this girl just obviously has a problem with you so maybe just go up and ask her if you have done anything to upset her, and if she says no or asks why tell her why your worried. It might just be her, she might not have meant to sound that rude?

The guy who i was talking to is intelligent and likes to know about things and he talks back with me, but yesterday i just felt like not talking anymore untill about 8pm when another girl(Polish supervisor) asked me why i was quiet
and she said i dont talk too much but maybe she didnt hear me talking to the guy.

Is it something to be ashamed of in any case?

You're still his friend arent you?

And is it true that most people will let you know that you are boring them?

When she started talking about a topic i was talking about, i went up and said, "see you're talking about it" and she just rolled her eyes and said "oh hear you go again" whether that's because i am questioning her or whether it is to do with my talking, i can't tell. so i will ask her at 2
Why do you always state the nationalities of females? It's mildly weird...

But anyway, it sounds like this girls being a bit of a cow. If anybody else had such a problem with it they would just tell you. When I am really busy at work people trying to chat to me is irritating, but not to the extent that I need to shout at them. It's not because I don't like the people talking to me etc but because I don't multi task very well and want to get on with my work, can't stand to see a queue! If this is the only issue she has she's making too much of a fuss, those crazy eastern europeans!

My flatemate? No, I tolerate him. he's weird and creepy but that's not the point.

I would ignore her, don't challenge her about it. If she wants to act like an arse, let her.

Because i was trying to give you the atmosphere as in the fact that maybe the reason is because she cant understand waht i am chatting to him about. Hence why imentioned the supervisor not knowing why i was quiet as she was there but wouldn't have understood either.

I just need to know from her, whether it was the questioning of her being annoyed or the fact that i talk alot. Because she might have waved the folder in my face and said stop talking in jest, and probably got annoyed at me saying sorry because its not a big deal or something.

Im not sure so i need to ask

Thanks for helping segat and everyone else

You know, it sounds like the girl either doesn't like you or she was just having "one of those days".

Either way, "water off a duck's back" - don't let it bother you.

Really you don't need to ask. It's a loathsome quality in a person to always have to ask 'am I bothering you? are you ok with me? why aren't you talking to me?'

You seem to have alot of problems centered around your work and your self-esteem. Thinking people are rude to you, don't like you, find you annoying won't help this, you need to realise that all people are equal and that as long as you are really acting like yourself you don't need to always be worried about what people think... it's very obvious and unattractive when you see a person trying to be who they are not just to fit in.

Sorry if it sounds harsh though
i had some good advice off my aunty yesterday, she said that women are COMPLETE b****es when it comes to the workplace. they always seem to want the upper hand and wherever you work there will be people like that. they dont do things that are really big, its little jibes that add up together and get to you. its a fact of life that us women have to put up with. another aunty, who is particularly beautiful (looks like julia roberts, grrr) has a lot of trouble, and has quit a few jobs because of women making horrible jibes at her. just dont say anythin about it to her, in fact try and ignore her where possible so she doesnt think she can get to you.

hope that helps!!
