I dont know who to put as my firm choice uni. I know warwick has a great reputation as a university but people also know loughborough as a good univereity for engineering and sport. The issue for me is that warwick's student life looks extremely dead compared to loughborough's.

Most important for me is of course the degree i get but i also want to enjoy my uni life.

I would appreciate anyones input especially if they have been to either warwick or loughborough for engineering.
    Thanks

    Hi azmjac 17

Great to hear you are considering Loughborough as your firm choice

We are the UK's leading university for Engineering Placements and our courses are very well-respected in the industry - take a look at our website for more information on Engineering at Loughborough, or feel free to ask us any questions and we'll do our best to help.

If you have any sporting aspirations, Loughborough.

As far as I can tell there's not much night life associated with Warwick.

Hi thanks for replying, since im comparing you to another uni. Can you offer me any figures or hard evidence, in how you excel with; placements, industry links, post grad employment and degree success.
    Thanks

    Hi azmjac17

Sure - you can check out our employment stats for our Automotive Engineering course here.

In terms of industry links and placements, all of our undergraduate courses have the option to include a paid placement year as part of your degree, which is a great way of 'getting your foot in the door' and gaining valuable industry experience. According to the HESA 2013 student record, we send 45% more students on placements than any other university.

Our Automotive courses are unique in that they are ran in an Automotive department by academics working in the industry, so links with employers are strong and very well-established. Companies providing recent placements include Bentley, JCB, Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren, Mercedes F1, Red Bull Racing and Triumph.

    Hope this helps!

Thought I'd add a bit of balance to this thread (I went to Warwick, so I can talk from experience).

Both are reputable campus universities in the West Midlands with decent engineering departments with good industrial links. As Amy pointed out, Loughborough specialises in placement years so that might be a good choice if you want to take a year out. Warwick will also let you do one of course, it's just that you will have to go about organising it yourself.

Regarding nightlife - I had a blast at Warwick. Granted, the student union is pretty much the only game in town on campus, but it's pretty good and I've been to Loughborough and it looked like a similar set up there. You'll probably end up living in Leamington after the first year, which has a few studenty and not so studenty clubs. It's not exactly Ibiza (hardcore clubbers will probably want to look elsewhere) but it's a entertaining enough night out. I'm not qualified to say if Loughborough is any better, but I'd be surprised if there was a lot in it tbh!

Sports facilities at Loughbrough will be better, but sports clubs at Warwick are pretty well funded too and probably slightly more inclusive. Unless you're planning on competing at an Elite level, I wouldn't let it sway your decision too much.

    All the best - EIT
