How do i work out damages for breach of quality for a second hand car?

    In my scenario

The car engine exploded and caused £8000 damage, I have established the car was not of satisfactory quality and the person I'm advising can get a refund.

but im not sure about how the person can claim the additional damages for £8000.

    please help.

Look for whether or not the damages arose naturally from their breach of contract. Would a breach of that magnitude be likely to cause such damage? Victoria Laundry case.
Also look at remoteness of damages; could it be foreseeable at all?
