Sorry to hear about your rejection

I emailed for feedback (applied for Modern History) and got exactly the same response. Pretty disappointing, as I'm considering reapplying next year and would have liked some better advice. Though looking at your grades I'm not sure I'll have much more luck next year!!!

Sorry to hear about both of your rejections.

I also heard back yesterday with a rejection for English and Modern History, and I'm gutted - St Andrews was always my 1st choice and leagues ahead of the other universities I'd applied to, so I'm not sure if I'll take a gap year and reapply for 2018 entry or not. I don't want to sound self-righteous, but I'm just a bit baffled, I more than met the minimum requirements, and I've got unconditionals for my other choices, so my PS couldn't be that bad. It sounds stupid, I could just settle and go to Edinburgh, but St Andrews has always been my dream uni, and I don't think I'd enjoy the course nearly as much. Really scared about a gap year though, I'd be terrified of wasting it, or not being able to find relevant work experience etc.

It is indeed closer to home but it too has a good reputation.
She really loved the feel of the place and as she will be spending 4 years minimum there, needed to feel totally comfortable.
She loved St Andrews too but Stirling had the edge.

    Sorry to hear that

I understand, technically Oxford was my first choice but I think St Andrews always really was, absolutely love the place and on the train home from the open day I just kept thinking 'I can't wait to hopefully go back there'. I think it's worth a second shot, at least for me, as I just didn't think I'd enjoy the places I have offers from as much and it's three or four years of my life and a lot of money, so I need to be sure. Don't feel like you have to just settle! The thought of a gap year is terrifying me, but hopefully I can make it worthwhile. I more than met the minimum requirements too, and thought I had a really good chance, but just guess they didn't think I fit the course. It was my favourite course out of all the ones I applied to - I'm such a modernist and the chance to study history from 1485 was just gold, which is probably why I'm so gutted.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it'll work out for the best!

Just got rejected for chemistry with medicinal chemistry, I am EU. I am going to study in Germany now, I don't quite know what to do because I really was hoping for St Andrews.

Nevertheless, good luck to all of you!

Yeah it sucks :/ especially as I read back at all the rejections that happened recently all of you waited for so long for a negative response. :cry2:

:hugs: hope you find somewhere that you enjoy in Germany or reapply next year

Just wanted to offer my commiserations to you as well..

I got rejected about 4 weeks ago with predicted A*A*AA (for Maths which is an AAA course!!) and I'm still pretty bitter about it tbh. Do you reckon they made a mistake with our applications lol?

This is worrying I was planning on reapplying next year. If you already had A*A*A*A and they claim that most offer holders had predicted higher asking rates, what kind of applicants are they getting this year?!
Well my daughter is predicted 4 A* and got a rejection for maths. She has superb
GCSE results and v strong extra curric (inc maths things). But she was classed as
EU (despite only ever going to school in England) and there are far fewer places for scottish/EU students (as St A gets fined if they exceed a certain number) Upon
querying it, she was told that although she was very strong, there were stronger
    candidates!!
I just can't believe that. She is considering reapplying next year (not always a
great idea for maths) but i can't see how she would be in a better position next
    year really.

My Daughter and i went to St Andrews University to do the 'talk and tour' which lasted 2 hours.
The admissions officer told us that they put a huge emphasis on the personal statement, so maybe this is what let your Daughter down?
    Just a thought.

At the end of the day it is all about who else applies and in the end she was probably just unlucky. Imagine if you're an admissions tutor and you get all these applications with top grades and strong extra-curriculars, who do you pick? I certainly don't envy them. I know it is hard to consider other unis when you're set on one but a few years down the line it won't look so one sided. I'm sure there are many other Universities she can thrive in and develop as a young adult while still getting a great maths education. As for the job market, there isn't really any difference between the top 20ish Unis except for more specialist courses like PPE or something.

I believe their plan is to have all offers/rejections for people who applied through UCAS sent out by end of tomorrow, so I wouldn't call until next week - you'll just be slowing them down if you call today.
