I'm a current year 12 student at a grammar school. I'm studying Maths, English Literature, Religious Studies and Politics. I'm predicted AAAB (extenuating circumstances) and would like at least AAA at A2. I got A*s, As and 2 Bs at GCSE (again, extenuating circumstances) and also already have an AS Level.

I want to be a journalist but don't want to shut off other paths in case I turn out to be unsuccessful in this. My ideal would be to get a good apprenticeship in journalism (generally seem to be 2 years long) at somewhere like the BBC but then go onto university and study either politics or theology at a good university (e.g. Surrey).

A few questions (you don't have to answer both, any advice on either of them would be greatly appreciated):
    1. is it possible to do an apprenticeship for 2 years and then go onto university?
    2. would having an apprenticeship in journalism make universities less or more keen to accept me? I know experience is supposed to help you out so would that apply here too?
    3. Can I apply to apprenticeships and universities at the same time and then choose later on which to do?
    4. If yes to the above, would I be able to do an apprenticeship and keep any university offers and just go 2 years later or would I have to reapply?

    Thank you!

    1) Yes it is
    2) Not sure
    3) Yes
    4) You'd have to reapply- you can request deferred entry for a year but once you've chosen your firm and insurance you loose your other offers and once you get your results if you get the grades for your firm or insurance uni you loose that other offer. So you can only hold a place at one uni for a year.
