how do you write a good quality work for English language?

i wrote loads hoping to get an A/A* (15/20) on my practice exam question. Writing a letter to give an opinion on a headteacher's recent decision which is for girl and boys playing together for PE.
1 THOUGHT i did pretty good since i knew a lot on why i disagreed with the headteacher such as embarrassment, physical strength, personal experiences, bullying etc but i got 9/20.

How do you write a A/A* letter . Could you give me some examples, phrases etc this would really help

    thank you.
