Today i went to my doctors and he reffered me to a dietition, at the hospital.
I am afraid of what will happen and what they will say and things.
can anyone tell me, or has anyone got one??

Hi, first things first, try not to panic, the doctor has referred you to a dietician in order to help you. is there a particular reason that he has referred you e.g. overweight/underweight?

I have had a few in the past and although i am very scared of hospitals and doctors, they have always done their best to put me at ease.
When i have been, they have often asked for a food diary over a few weeks, or a general run down of what i eat and when. They may sound like they are lecturing you sometimes but they are genuinely concerned about your health. They may give you some information on what you should be eating, same as they may explain to you the effect that your current weight (be that over or under) will be having on your health.

If you are very worried about it, would any of your friends be able to go with you, they will probably not be allowed into the appointment but they should be able to wait outside for you so you know that someone is there for you.

My experience with them is of being underweight, but i am willing to listen and share my experience in more detail, so if you want to talk about anything then pm me.

They're only going to give you advice - you don't have to listen to them or anything.

Hi, I saw a dietician a few months ago. She talked things through with me about my diet and then sent me for blood tests to see if I was allergic to anything. She then sent me some diet plans which were quite interesting. I'm not over/under weight, I'm trying to see if any foods cause my joint problem to be worse. It was quite an interesting appointment and I learnt a lot from it. Just stay calm...there's nothing bad about going and they'll be nice to you because they want to help

Never understood why people would be scared of recieving medical help.

Whats the worst they could say? "Your underweight... eat more".

it can be daunting to have people discussing issues with you, - i personally am awful at talking about anything to anyone professional - it feels like a breach of my privacy despite the fact i know they're only helping me!

depends if you value privacy over health

Why are you worried? You went to your doctor, and a dietician is just a doctor who knows more about diets than your standard GP. I don't see why you'd be more worried than going to, say, an optician. He's not going to be using your stomach as a drum skin or something. The most he can do is advise you. He can't force you into doing anything unless you're seriously putting yourself at risk and are about to die.

Hey thanks for all the replys, you have all been very helpful, as always
I am worried because its a new thing to me i guess, i am a very worried person anyway, i worry about anything and everything, its just (unfortunalty)
I am the same as Baby Bee, I find it really hard to talk to proffesional working people about me, for the same reasons aswell.
But I guess its something I am going to have to get use to!
Thanks for your reassurance.
