No, I do believe that depression is a real illness. I do however believe that feeling depressed and suffering from depression are two totally different things but a lot of the time, people just lump the two together. We all feel depressed occasionally but not all of us will ever suffer from depression.

What is it with all your threads recently?

Please go to your GP asap. It sounds like you're really struggling and making thread after thread on a student website which will probably start some arguments is not going to help you.

EDIT: To answer the question, I am mentally ill myself so no. Depression is real.

Well if an illness= a disease or period of sickness affecting the body or mind.

I guess it is. I have been prescribed medication to help my mood but it doesn't seem to work anyway... I think the issue is that people swing the term around too often and they forget what depression really is.

There are chemical changes in the brain which cause depression. Unless you don't believe in chemistry, I can't see how you think that way.
