Couple of people came round to our school a few weeks ago and it sounded fun.
However, I'm really introverted, so I'm worried I may not like it.
Are the people there usually quite kind and welcoming?
What kind of social activities are there?

Yes you should do it... It's the best experience I've had. The first week at a scout camp-like thing is a team building week so by the end you and your group become really tight knit in prep for the next two weeks.

I knew no one on my wave and I'm an introvert but you have about 10-11 other people in your team so you will easily make friends

I second every part of this. I am the shyest person you will ever meet but had the best time I have ever experienced, without exaggeration.
