Friend with eating disorder

Just come back from having a conversation with my friend who's told me she thinks she has an eating disorder - apparently she uses food as a form of self punishment, if she does something she doesn't like she bans herself from eating a meal, or if what she did was "really bad" she won't eat for a day or whatever. She says she won't go to a Doctor to talk about it.

Any suggestions about what to do?

I was stuck in that vicious cycle.Lost two stone in about 5 months thorugh diet and " punishment " when I ate too much/felt bad and then food became my comfort and I'd binge to feel better. went to see doctor and she diagnosed me with depression and has told me to stop losing weight. I wanna lose a stone more but I know it's best I don't, I'm JUST a healthy BMI( was very overweight before). Get her to see a doctor

Eating disorders are potentially life threatening, it's important that she speaks to someone. She took a step in the right direction by telling you, people with eating disorders don't just come out and say something like that, eating disorders are usually very secretive. She realises that she has a problem, and she confided in you, that's great. To help her get through this, your support will mean a lot to her. Get her to speak to a doctor as soon as possible, she is harming her body with her eating disorder, she needs to get checked out. They will be able to offer help. As horrible as it might seem to her right now, it's the best option if she wants to get better. Speaking to her family would be a good idea too. The more support she has, the better.
