Congratulations! Yours is the first Glasgow offer I've heard of but there may be others.

How and when did you hear and are you Scottish/EU/RUK/other?

Today, email, I'm an applicant from Singapore

Thinking about zoology but not sure

I’m currently in my final year studying Zoology at Queen’s Belfast, if you have any questions let me know!
Thanks, congratulations again. Did you interview in Glasgow or do they interview somewhere closer to you?

thank you, I'm really chuffed  <3 they conducted interviews in Singapore this past week for all the South East Asia applicants (I believe it's because they have an office here? not too sure haha), mine was last tuesday

now I won't be as anxious... I was literally a ball of stress these past few months. Good luck with all your applications, which schools did you pick out?
It's so good that you heard so quickly. The waiting is the worst part.

I'm not an applicant, I'm a dinosaur vet. I do know some school students who have applied this year though, including Glasgow applicants, they are still waiting to hear back from what I gather.

The term "dinosaur vet" made me wonder how you could specialise in an extinct species... Sometimes I'm very dense, haha. I actually asked her today during a presentation when I could expect to hear back - she said latest by the end of Jan, but she smiled at me saying they are usually quite fast. An hour later I got the offer, which officially ends the waiting period. And I agree with you 120% that it's the worst part :')

So, as a dinosaur vet, any tips for uni and vet school life?

This just made my day haha
I'm sure much has changed at vet school since I was there but my advice would be be prepared to work hard, really hard, as the amount of content in the course is staggering. Take any opportunity you are given to practice practical skills as the more you do before you qualify the more prepared you will be to qualify. Especially try and build good relationships with the practices where you do your EMS as then they are likely to let you do more hands on stuff while you are there. I would recommend you make the tea/coffee, take the post, mop the floors, clean kennels etc, really try and fit in and be one of the team.

Obviously make sure you enjoy your time at uni, make friends, socialise and go out, exercise and do sports, but know when you need to study.

Once you qualify try and find the "right" first job for you. I would recommend taking a job with out of hours, as long as you have someone you can call if you need help. OOH work helps you gain experience in emergencies and some of the less common ops and it gives real job satisfaction. Don't focus on the salary and the hours offered but instead focus on the support you will get. If you choose wrongly for your first job and are struggling (that happened to me) don't give up but look for somewhere better that will help you progress, and be honest with your new employer so they can help you onto the right track.

I hope that helps a little

That definitely does help, thanks  I think I got so caught up in the uni admission process that I lost sight of what life would be like after qualifying, your insights are really helpful!

Where did you graduate from, and what do you think the school you graduated from gave you that no other school can?
I was at the RVC. I didn't look round any of the vet schools before applying, and I didn't have any interviews, so I have no idea what the other vet schools were like at that time. I applied on a paper UCAS form to 3 vet schools and 2 zoology degrees. You had to order your preferences and the universities were aware of the order of your choices I think. I had Edinburgh at number 1 and RVC at number 2. I can't remember my number 3 :s-smilie: RVC was my only veterinary offer and luckily I got the grades I required :colondollar:

A paper UCAS form? Wow, I can't even imagine that, you really as we a dinosaur 😂😂😂 (jk) so what was it like for international students who wanted to apply through UCAS

Oh also, it's so cool that you went to RVC, it's actually been my top choice for years now.... Have an interview on the 5th of Jan so I'm really nervous but at least I'm not as stressed as before... I'm wondering if it's really true that it's more competitive now to get in than it was in dinosaur times () because while everyone has told me yes, I still feel like there will always be tons of people who want to be vets...

Err, there were no international students in my year at RVC :s-smilie:

Good luck with your interview! I have no idea how competitive it really is now compared to then. I suspect it is similar, although our year size was much much smaller than it is now as I say there were no international students.

Hi, I had my interview for the accelerated course at RVC on the 1st Dec, they mentioned that they will probably send a few offers out before Christmas. Just wondering if anyone has heard from them?

Has anyone heard anything from Liverpool? I got an email saying that they will make their decision by the 22nd Dec 😬

nerve racking 😬😬
You know the Nottingham interviews, does anyone know how they sorted them out into the dates? Like is it in alphabetical order of your surname or in descending order of the scores from the questionnaire and SJT? Just wondering🙂 probably a mystery haha x
