    two speakers 1.5m part, a girl who is 8 metres away from the speaker, walks across a line parallel to the line between the speaker, She finds that there is a distance of 1.2m between successive points where the sound is very quiet. Calculate the wavelength of sound.

    Can I use wavelength = ax/d

    Were x= 1.2m
    a=1.5m
    D=8m

    sort of - the formula uses a small angle approximation instead of trig and the angles here are clearly larger than if you were doing an optical double slit experiment with a screen several meters away.

    however the difference between ax/d and doing the full trig is pretty small, last digit at 3sf
