My first post so bear with.
The opportunity to get involved with student theatre is something that's really important to me, as I've got offers from five unis but don't know which to choose. I won't be studying theatre but I hope to do it a lot on the side.
It's clear that every university is different when it comes to the set up of drama societies, so it would be great if answers could include some of these categories:
Number of drama societies
Number and availability of performance spaces (i.e. do you have to fight for them)
Approx. number of plays put on per term
Variety in types of productions, e.g. comedy, drama, musicals
Any experiences of unfairness within auditioning process
How likely you feel you are to get a part [if you're not a terrible actor]
Availability and advertisementof opportunities to write and direct
Apologies if those categories are unclear but really I just want to hear your take on drama at your university. Having been to uni before (long story) I have experience of auditioning and producing so will have something to compare your opinions to.

Perhaps you should tell us which universities you applied to so that we can try to answer your question, or direct you to the proper sub forum. I think it would be a good idea to contact the drama societies of your chosen universities directly; they are the best people to answer these questions.
