The Student Room Group

16 and a half and still a child.

Hello all. Just wanted some advice etc.

I am 16 and a half and still dont have facial hair ( beard/ mostaches )
Everyone in my class even those younger to me by two years have started to get hair. Even those who do not yet have a beard have built up mostaches. And I feel ... well like a kid in a room filled with adults. :frown:

I was once talking to a doctor and he casually asked my age and was surprised that I was still soft around the edges:eek: .

And the weather here is usually hot so i think these things should happen quicker in here.

Puberty affects different people at different times. You just happen to be one of the later ones - there's nothing wrong with that. I know some 18-year-olds that hardly have to shave at all - it's not a big thing, don't worry.

Often things like this run in the family - what was your Dad like when he was your age?
Tbh I think it's a good thing - there is nothing worse then 16 years olds trying to grow a beard...it looks pathetic - so just stay clean shaven...looks better trust me

don't worry, i didn't get breasts until i was 18! which is way more noticable than facial hair, anyway 16 is still very young, i don't know any 16 year olds with beards . I'm guessing it's more common to wear a beard in pakistan, because seriously over here most people spend more time shaving them off then worrying about not having one .

you're still very young, development happens at different rates for everyone! my bro's 19 and only just really got facial hair (which he celebrates by insisting on growing a ginger beard...)

it's really nothing to worry about

Everyone is different, some people are quite young, others are a little bit older when they start to develop facial hair. Try not to worry about it, you're still fairly young, there is plenty of time for it to happen. A couple of my male friends don't have facial hair and they are all a little bit older than you, we're all nearly 20. Honestly though, don't worry.

Thanks for the advice.

I dont think I can tell what my father was like because:

1- I was not there then to have a look
2- Photography was not so common in our region back then. Really we do not have a photograph of Dad or mom when they were young.

Let's just say that my brother is nearly 18 and he grew facial hair only 6 months ago. People develop at different rates but theres nothing usually wrong. It's all a question of genetics basically.
also depends how often you shave, since shaving encourages faster growing facial hair. I'm a lazy sod and hardly ever do so am quite a few years behind in terms of facial hair development :p:.

I'm 19 and have only started growing it on my chin in the lest few months. At 16 I only had a bit of fluff on my upper lip. Don't worry about it mate.

I know guys here who still can't grow proper facial hair, and they're 18/19/20 even, don't worry about it, you're not strange. Some people just develop later.

Exactly. My mate can grow a full beard from his chin but nothing on his upper lip.

I could. But then I would need to explain why I am asking, and if i had the courage to ask this thing from anyone in REAL LIFE i would not be here asking it on TSR. I'd be with a doctor.

At 16, you'd be very lucky to have a beard mate. You might not have a full beard untill you are in your 20s.

Thanks. But whereas I might be normal in the wider world. I am not so normal in my region. Once a teacher literally said that i look like a girl when he compared with the rest of the class mates.

if you want to appear older, stop tagging 'and a half' onto your age.
Don't worry about it. I'm not far off twenty and barely have any facial hair.
