    Hi everyone

I'm currently on an access course and on track to make my offer to study History at Queen Mary, but I've been having some second thoughts: while I would very much like to go to Queen Mary, it's probably going to be quite difficult to not work for three years. As a compromise, I might apply to do a part time History degree at Birkbeck instead.

So I suppose my question to anyone reading is what is the general perception of History at Birkbeck? I've looked into their assessment methods and was shocked to see that 60% of the course is assessed by exams, much higher that other universities. I also noticed that their dissertation word limit it 7,000, lower than the standard 10,000.

    Thanks

I don't know much about Birkbeck's history course, only that you do most of your lectures in the evening (which is great if you work during the day). If you are worried about the high number of exams then I think you should phone someone in the history department to talk about it. You might find this thread interesting, admittedly it's quite big but there might be some history students in there: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1409503

    Thanks for that!

I only just realised that Goldsmiths also offer a part time history degree. Any thoughts/opinions on which uni has a better reputation for history would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks
