I am a great fan of modern poetry and i am very annoyed that we cannot get access to modern poetry at university. I took a modern poetry book into university to my tutor which was DECA by Geoff Tims. My tutot said that he was a big fan of Geoff Tims and agreed that we should be allowed to be taught modern poetry but the powers above only want students taught traditional poetry. It annoys me because geoff tims who's site is www.geofftims.co.uk is one of the leading modern poets in the poetry world today. He is never out of the media and is always on the radio so why does the university's feel that we should not be taught modern poetry. Don't they know that students are bored with traditional poetry and do they not understand that modern poetry has meaning into todays life. There are lots of good modern poets out there but we are not allowed to read them as part of our course. I wish someone would tell me why.

I guess tradition plays a bigger part in society than we think.
