    Suggest how mass spectrometry could be used to distinguish between propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10)

    You could talk about the difference in flight times? How many marks is the question (do you need more than 1 point?)

    A mass spectrometer can give you the relative formula mass of the substances when it is separated by gas chromotography so in that way it can be easy to detect which is propane and which is butane. (I think)
