I am an Irish student so I am unfamiliar with the system.
I was wondering if I put down my firm (UCL) and meet the grades, am I absolutely obliged to attend the course? I notice on the UCAS website it says " by contract you are obliged". Seems dodgy to me.

Could I turn it down in August and attend uni in Ireland instead? Or if I want to attend Uni in ireland must I decide by May 4th and withdraw all my offers from UCAS?
I want to keep as much options open as possible

No you can Firm UCL now (or before the UCAS deadline) and then decide to walk away in August if you really want to, so long as you don't sign any accomodation contracts...

It does happen, especially for non-UK candidates who take up university places in other countries.
