Suggest why disaccharides, such as sucrose and lactose, are not absorbed in the ileum.

Is this because they are not hydrolysed into monosaccharides or is it because they need to be actively transported into blood instead of being absorbed? Thanks.

They cannot cross cell membranes unaided and there are no transporters to carry them across. So they are instead hydrolyzed into monosacharides which can be absorbed.

Can they be actively transported then? By atp. That is produced?

Nope. They have to be enzymatically digested.
