My statement is 575 words and about 3,700 characters long. Is this too short because I've seen examples online and they tend to have over 600 words?

The line count is more important than characters or words - your PS will probably be about 3400-3600 if you have line breaks between paragraphs, and I suggest that you have them

My statement is 631 words and I worked out that UCAS only accept 3,988 characters precisely. My friend only had 2,941 characters and her firm choice accepted her because her PS was so strong, even though she didn't meet the grade requirements by 3 grades (she was offered AAB and she achieved BBC). So like they say, it's more 'quality' than 'quantity'.
