How to socialise in university
So this may seem like an odd question but I'm not the most confident of people.. I like meeting new people but dread approaching them.
I know for the most part the main responses will be attend events before uni starts and join societies however for me work takes up most of my time at the moment.

If you are living in halls then your hallmates will generally approach you and start talking to you if you don't approach them first. You may find the same in small group sessions at university e.g. seminars, tutorials e.c.t
Also how does work now effect you joining societies when you get to uni?
