    Hi,

My mum, a single parent, recently moved in with her partner which I must update on my next student finance application.

As I have to input her partner's income also, how much will this affect my application? He isn't going to give me any money towards me at university, but I fear it will make my loan much smaller, as the year before it was the maximum amount.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately student finance and the benefits system will always assume that a partner is willing to share their income with the rest of the household.

All you can do is to get him to provide his details and hope it doesn't have much affect. If he has any dependent children from previous relationships then ask him to make sure he mentions those (and I don't know the full details of the initial financial assessment but make sure he lists his pension contributions too).
