Choosing a backup university for mechanical engineering? (Loughborough vs. Birmingham watch

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me choose between Loughborough and Birmingham for mechanical engineering (Meng).

I am selecting an offer of A*AA from Southampton as my first choice.

    Loughborough have offered me AAA
Birmingham has offered me an unconditional for first choice and AAA if I put it as a second.

I know these are fairly high grades for a backup, but I'm fairly confident I can achieve these grades.

The thing I want to know is, if I was to get AAB would loughborough and Birmingham still take me?

I like Loughborough more but I feel they wouldn't take lower grades as AAA is already lower than the normal offer they give

I also like Birmingham (not as much) but I feel the unconditional will make them more likely to take me with lower grades.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

    Cheers.

It would depend on what the other applicants got on results day, its not uncommon to be expected if you drop just the one grade but there's never a guarantee that will happen. Pick the one you feel you'll be happier at.
