    Which question?

Drwa a tangent to get the gradient of a curve at a particular point. Hold a rule so that its edge forms a chord which cuts the curve equidistant from the point where you want the tangent.

Slide the rule to make the chord shorter so that the chord disappears to a length of zero at the point where you want the tangent.

The line that you draw should just touch the curve and also should be about the gradient of the curve at that point.
