    Hi

I am planning to enrol in Aberystwyth this year and am torn between Fferm Penglais and Rosser. I would prefer an en-suite accommodation for reasons, and I visited the Fferm Penglais place last week and it looked very nice. However from what I saw in pictures Rosser might be older but is £500 cheaper and seems to just have a smaller bed.

Just wondering if I could hear from anyone who is/has been in the same position from me, and what they thought about the two halls?

    Thanks.

I checked them both out a couple of days ago, and from what I can see, Fferm Penglais looks much better and more comfortable in my opinion. I would say it totally depends on what you want to get out of it. If you feel you would be spending a lot of time in your room, or you wanted to throw parties or something, Fferm Penglais seems to be the better option, due to it being away from the residential areas and contains more luxuries. However, if you plan on using the room only for sleeping for the most part, the cheaper rates at Rosser would benefit you more.
It also depends on where you are likely to have many lectures, as I believe Rosser is closer to Penglais Campus. It is also closer to Aberystwyth centre, but Fferm Penglais has all necessary facilities on site.

Also, don't forget about the £400 bursary available to all students in their first year of undergrad studies.

Personally, I'm breaking the trend and going straight into private accommodation, so that is also an option if you feel brave enough to make friends without the head start of being stuck together for a year with people who may not be your cup of tea.

    Thanks for the help

I'm leaning towards Rosser mainly because of the price, the luxuries such as the TV in the kitchenand the double bed aren't really worth the £600 price difference in my view especially as I have a TV and could buy the TV licence for less money if I wanted to. I'm sure if I change my mind later I can change it.

But yeah thanks a lot for the help

I was in the same position as you, but then I realised that the £400 off during the first year meant that Fferm Penglais was only £5 a week more expensive the Rosser, so I'm going for Fferm Penglais

Woah wait a minute, does the bursary only apply to Fferm Penglais? I thought it applied to every accommodation..

I'm going Fferm Penglais, mainly because I love modern looking buildings and having a double bed like at home will make me feel more comfortable at the accommodations. Also a TV in the kitchen would probably help me socialise more than in the bedroom, I'll probably have my computer setup in my room if I wanna watch anything alone anyway.

I also need an en-suite for reasons, and had a look at Rosser and Fferm Penglais. In the end, I chose the studios and en-suites in Fferm Penglais; the environment looks more comfortable than the others, and the studios - I think - are a better idea for me as a mature student other reasons.
