Go RGS, its probably the most elitist secondary school in the north-east. Well us or Barnard Castle. We came 3rd in Target 2.0, and got to the finals of the Oxford AND Cambridge Union debating competitions

(That isnt saying much, our speciality is drinking beer not education!)

If you're intelligent, you'll excel wherever you go. If you're stupid, then no amount of money is going to change that.

But it's not really that simple is it? Most people aren't intelligent enough to excel wherever they go, and aren't so stupid that they're never going to do well. Parents send their children to private schools because often the results are better and if they're not intelligent enough to get into a good grammar school they'll just go to a regular school where they might not be pushed in the same way. My parents started sending my elder sister to the local primary school where she wasn't very clever. They moved her into the private sector when she was 7 and in her GCSEs she did better than anyone else who was in that class. She's now at a better university than any of them (a lot of them didn't go) and therefore probably has better prospects, despite not having as much raw potential. They consider that money well spent. I should also point out that the schools the village children went to were considered quite good state schools, not inner city comps or anything. Private school does make a difference - there aren't many people who are beyond help academically and they're far more likely to get it in a private school. Not just coaching to help them get better grades (which will of course aid them in life), but in helping them to learn how to learn (sorry about that sentence!).

Oh and I think the most elitist school is probably Eton.

To the best of my knowledge, Eton. I mean, those kids are just from a different planet - no concept of reality at all.

you can't really make a snap judgement like that
its like saying all public-school kids are snobs. its not true.

I always have to laugh when I see Fettes coming for Sports matches... in their 'Magenta and Chocolate' blazers, they look like candy canes gone wrong... I've heard Malbourogh (I think that's the right spelling) are pretty elitist... and my school was, apparantly, the best in Scotland this year. We're definately sport elitist... I think we should become a sports school, and I the most unsporty, ungainly person ever to grace the earth!

Probably... and at places like Edinburgh, Durham, St Andrews, UCL etc.. I think 20 - 30 % is about the right figure. Other schools get far more in like Westminster gets about 40% in..

Institut Le Rosey is the most prestigious in the world, by far. The school and its students guard their privacy, which is why Le Rosey is not as famous in the mainstream as Eton, Exeter, Phillips, or Gordonstoun. Eton may be more famous, but Le Rosey is much more prestigious. It is not only the oldest boarding school in Switzerland, it is also considered the most academically serious of the Swiss boarding schools.

It is also the most expensive boarding school in the world, with total costs amounting to over 100,000 Swiss Franc (over $80,000 USD) per year. I think the school is also the only boarding school in the world to change campuses seasonally. In the winter months, the student body, teachers, and staff move to Le Rosey's winter campus in the elite ski resort town of Gstaad. The school definitely gives its students the best of everything, particularly giving its students entrance into a uniquely international atmosphere. A maximum of 10% of the student body may be from one country, which makes Le Rosey especially international.

Although Forbes reports that Le Rosey is a school where the students are "coddled", and that it is a school where you "learn to be a billionaire", the students are taught the principles of humanitarianism and charity.

The school does have a very presitigous alumni. King Baudouin I of Belgium, King Albert II of Belgium, Prince Rainier of Monaco, Aga Khan IV, Princess Zahra Aga Khan, Prince Edward of Kent, King Fuad II of Egypt, Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Italy, King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, the Shah of Iran (King of Persia) Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and King Ntare V of Burundi, just to name a few.

Can't say I agree on the prestigious alumni front - most of them are princes and princesses and most who are of royal blood are like that by an accident of birth, not because their families actually worked for the money; and furthermore, what have they done since apart from being princes and princesses?

Agree with the rest though

I was just listing some of the more world famous alumni. Several self-made success stories have come out of Le Rosey, and many, many more highly successful businessmen. Founder of Elite Model Management (biggest model agency worldwide) John Casablancas, fashion designer Jimmy Choo, CIA Director Richard Helms, Hong Kong billionaire hotelier Michael Kadoorie, venture capitalist Ghulab Khan, Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos, Garech Browne of the Guinness brewing family, MIT computer scientist Nicholas Negroponte, et al. Le Rosey is also the choice of schooling for the children of Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross, Mohammed al-Fayed, Bruce Johnston, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, and Roger Moore. A famous anecdote within Le Rosey's history is the administration denying Charlie Chaplin's children admission because the admissions deadline for that year had passed.

The original post was about what school is the most elite in the world, and while Le Rosey is trying to distance itself from the reputation, the school is without a doubt the most prestigious and elite.

^^ That's better, I've heard of more of them than from that princes/princesses list you posted

Le Rosey is popular with royalty, and has had at least 5 alumni that are or were chiefs of state: King Baudouin I of Belgium, King Albert II of Belgium, King Juan Carlos I of Spain, King Fuad II of Egypt, and King Ntare V of Burundi. But the scions of the royal houses of Europe are more common at Le Rosey than the heads of the royal houses. Even though royalty has been common throughout Le Rosey's history, it is definitely the businessmen and their children that have created the most fame. Forbes magazine commented, "Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton; the global economy, on the slopes of Gstaad."

It's a beautiful school le rosey. But horrible at sports.

Hardly! Wellington wasn't at Eton for a long time and didn't exactly light up the world there.

Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Angers Military school (quite ironically in France).

I guess it was just Forbes being Forbes.

Hey,
I'm planning on applying to Le Rosey for next year, but I have one concern:
Is it academically challenging enough?
I've always been used to a very demanding education - and although it looks like a great school, the leavers list doesn't really seem to do it any justice. Where is Harvard, etc...and it also shows it over a three year period. This doesn't seem fair...

Can anyone please tell me what the academic side is like? And any other 'interesting details' would be much appreciated!
Thank you =)
