We did an extraction of a compound using presaturated water and octanol. We dissolved 1mg of our compound in 20ml of presaturated water however it did not dissolve very well at all.
We measured the absorbance of this and got 0.72. However when we measured the absorbance of the water layer after extraction, took it away from 0.72 to get the proportion in octanol after the seperation and worked out the logP by putting the this over the we got a logP much lower than the compound should have (-0.1 instead of 3). I'm trying to work out why this would be. Would the fact the initial solid didn't dissolve properly have an effect on this?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
