spelling mistakes? I thought there are more or less corrected by your computer?

when it comes to final exams, afaik, there is no 'spelling' criteria

yeah i meant the exams..

don't worry - they care about the content, not the spelling mistakes - you should only avoid them in languages, especially languages B !

The IB is understanding that a lot of students write Group 3/4/5 papers in a language other than their first language, so they do not penalize for spelling mistakes. If your answer is coherent enough, they will award you the points. Even on English A1 exams, they are more strict on other categories than Use of Formal Language and you can still achieve a 5 with a few spelling mistakes.

The languages are the only ones which have criterions for 'language', which obviously includes spelling mistakes.
the rest don't care too much, as long as the answer is understandable...

They don't have a criteria for "spelling" but obviously part of the process of learning is to learn the correct spellings and so if you are a persistent offender you will lose marks. Just learn your spellings, then we wouldn't require this thread!

yeh for exams you can take the piss with grammatical and spelling errors if you so wish, bearing in mind some markers probably ahve worse english / whatever language your writing in than you do it shouldn't matter. I remember specifically on the comp sci mark schemes they highlighted tht it wasn't an english exam, not like the AEA 'advanced extention awards' in a levels, where for maths at least 7 marks are available for neatness and caligraphy, surely an award to be proud of...
