I am currently putting the finishing touches to an essay and need to quote a few references taken from a reading which have been quoted by the author from somebody else’s work.

Does anybody know how this should be displayed in both the essay and in the bibliography?

Unfortunately there is no reference to this (no pun intended) within my course's handbook. Also, with some references, the author has not included a page reference to the author she has quoted and just named the author and the year. The bibliography attached to the reading does not reference this either as would be the case with a Harvard referencing style.

If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

Citing a source within a source

Where your source quotes or refers to another source, for example Unsworth refers to previous work by Halliday on linguistics, the citation might read thus:

    (Halliday 1987, cited in Unsworth 2004, p. 15)

Only Unsworth will appear in the Reference list at the end of your assignment
