    Hey guys please help,
I have my final exam after 7 weeks and I'm struggling with the arteries elastic tissue. I already understand that when the left ventricle contracts the aorta stretches due to it elasticity and that when the left ventricle relaxes the aorta recoils. On the text book it says that:
Elastic tissues in walls of aorta stretch so some blood retained in vessel
most blood forced out when ventricle contracts
Remaining blood forced out when ventricle relaxed due to elastic recoil of aorta.
I know it's a stupid question but I'm confused why blood retained in vessel when the elastic tissues of aorta stretches.
