Medical question - where are your kidneys?

This is going to sound really stupid, but where exactly are your kidneys? When you feel your stomach, whereabouts would they be?

I woke up this morning feverish, with a need to go to the toilet and tenderness on my front whereabouts I think my kidneys might be. It's only just occured to me this might be a complication of the recent cystitis attack I had.

Am hoping you're going to tell me that my kidneys are in a completely different place, that I've only just slept funny and I probably drank too much liquid yesterday. Would rather be told I'm a hypocondriac than I need to go get checked out for a possible kidney infection. :s-smilie:

Thanks for any advice.

kidneys are at the back of your body. Hands on your hips and at the back where abouts your thumbs are... ish.

Erm if you have pain in your kidneys the pain would be in your lower back on either side of the spine... so I don't think it's your kidneys!

Thanks:smile: I know it was a stupid question, but I googled a diagram of the body and it didn't make clear whether you should be able to feel your kidneys at the front or the back of your body; just where they were in relation to your ribs etc.

Am just really paranoid after only recently getting over the cystitis. Thanks again.
