    Hey Emily,

We've spoken to one of our Graphic Design graduates, Ryan, who has said the following about the Graphic Design course at Hallam:

"The first couple of years really let you experiment within different areas of design and figure out what kind of designer you really want to be. The tutors all come from really different backgrounds, so their knowledge and expertise can really push your projects into new areas that you never of thought before, so you gain new skills in other forms of design to what you are used to. I left university with a range of new digital skills to make myself amore versatile designer. Eventually, when your each third year you have the choice to specialise in a particular area of design.

Hallam really has some great facilities to make the most of, don’t be afraid to ask for help the technicians are really helpful. Using them can really add more to your projects, like 3d printing, screen printing, laser cutting and everything on offer in the workshop to push more physical projects. Make the most of your time and freedom that university offers to really experiment with everything beyond just the computer, you never know where it will take you, I only really started making the most of what's on offer in third year, I wish I had made more time for it in earlier years. One of the best parts of the course is the speakers invited to talk about their work and experience.

When I was a student we had the likes of Kate Moross, Vince Frost and Kelly Anderson who was incredibly nice and I was lucky enough to exchange a few emails with. Having these great artists anddesigners in really is a great source of inspiration. Along with that there are portfolio surgeries with designers to help show your work to the best ability and find out what the professionals are after, that helped me get the job I’m doing now.

Sheffield was a big part of my decision to go to Hallam. There's plenty of street art to explore and plenty of independent shops that celebrate creativity. Along with loads of free exhibitions and galleries to fill your time and get some great inspiration. Its a nice friendly city, and Hallam is a create place to be a creative."

    We hope that's helpful!
    Thanks,
    Hannah & Laura
