I am commuting to uni as I only live half an hour away, my fear is I'll be left out of social stuff and make a lot less friends, I did do a year at Bangor uni and I made most of my friends in my flat before dropping out so I'm a bit wary anyone had good experiences commuting?

    Hi Darceyyyy,

I am from a town which is also about half an hour from UCLan on the train but I chose to live on campus for a few reasons. However, I do have a few friends on my course who commute further than that for lectures, such as Blackpool and Bolton, and they don't seem to suffer too much in terms of socialising. I think the best thing to do is be friendly with people on your course and perhaps organise a night out or something similar so you can all get to know each other - most of the time someone will let you stay at their place on campus! I have a few friends on my course and they all commute but we stay in touch regularly and meet up for lunch and study together all the time. Part of is it down to pot luck and whether you have chatty people on your course but uni is also what you make of it!

Also, UCLan has plenty of societies you can join which are a great way to meet people with shared interests and they also tend to organise socials so you can get involved with them, too

I hope this has put your mind at rest a little - try not to focus on what you might be missing out on, just get stuck in!
