Blacking out in the shower...

Yup, basically the title says it all.
Last week, I was in the shower and suddenly I just went all dizzy, blacked out and fell down into the bath!
No-one was home so it wasn't until my mum came back home and hears the shower that she saw me lying there..and as the water was hot I now have huge scold marks on my legs!

Thing is I don't know why or how it happened..I'm thinking perhaps because I had exam the next day, but then I didn't reall feel nervous about it. It's really frightened me as nothing like that has happened before! :s

Any of you guys had this problem??

If you are blacking out randomly you need to go and talk to your GP. :smile:

I have, quite a few times. After having a shower I would have these spells of feeling sick and dizzy. According to my mum I would go as white as a sheet and I would feel like I was going to black out. We concluded that I was probably having the shower on too hot, which was affecting my blood pressure and causing the near-fainting spells. If the water was hot enough to give you scald marks on your legs then chances are it was hot enough to play havoc with your blood pressure and make you black out. Just be more careful and it won't happen again. You shouldn't need to see a GP about it, it's really very basic to fix (though if you have cooler showers and it still keeps happening then do see a GP!).

Well, you can't say that for certain :s-smilie:
Most people will faint once or twice in their life. It's obviously a good idea to inform your GP of this, he/ she might want to take some blood samples or your blood pressure. I doubt they will take it further than this though, unless you faint again. You may well have passed out from the high temperatures btw, perhaps try turning the shower down a few degrees (it sounds like it was very hot, if you have scald marks)!

Blacking out in the shower is potentially dangerous. Which is reason enough to go see a doctor asap and get yourself checked out. If nothing else, it'll put your mind at rest. :smile: I'd imagine your mother's pretty scared too and she'd appreciate it too. :smile:

I can be almost certain.
I wasn't careful enough with shower temperature = I kept blacking out.
I started being more careful = blacking out stopped.
It doesn't take a genius.

I've felt faint in the shower, it because you're running it too hot.

Unless you're not running it too hot, in which case, see a doctor. If you have scolded legs, however, that suggests that you're running it too hot.

scold = to tell off.
scald = to burn.

Anyway, don't flatter yourself by thinking it was entirely for your benefit - the OP got it wrong as well.
Cheers for the neg as well :mad: Petty, much? :rolleyes:

Thank guys! Actually did see the doc and he put it down to stress and over exerting myself... but I didn't feel stressed..so that is the confusing part.

Hmmm, yes well I really do like HOT showers, perhaps it was the temperature. Never happened before though!

TBH, if you became scalded from the shower running when you were passed out, then you need to reconsider the temp!

Yes, but that's for YOU.

You can't diagnose someone else, who you've never met :confused: It might be an educated guess, but it's a guess nonetheless.

EDIT: OP, glad to hear you've seen a doctor, and from the sounds of it Angelil happens to be right :smile:
Happens to me all the time - normally if I haven't eaten before I shower and if it gets really steamy. I find turning the shower down a bit and making sure the window's open helps a bit. Also using showers over baths instead of cubicle showers - the steam doesn't build up so much then.
