# p6 help (transformations) watch

1. can some1 help me on this q, i can't seem to do it

heineman book page 172 q48

a transformation from the z-plane to the w-plane os given by

z=w^2

show that when z describes the line y=1 w describes a parabola and find this equation of this parabola

thanks
2. Shouldn't it be w = z^2 ?

Then p + qi = (x + i)^2. So p = x^2 - 1 and q = 2x. So 4p = q^2 - 4, which is the equation of a parabola.
3. yes sorry its z=w^2

thanks for helping me
