4. Ah, I spotted another possible conceptual error you're making (and I might have accidentally reinforced in an earlier response). In this particular question you are not taking the square root of both sides. You are finding the solutions of the quadratic. It's an important distinction. The square root is a one-to-one (one input gives a single output) function that is usually understood to return the positive root. If you take the square root of both sides, you therefore actually destroy information about one of the solutions.
