Hello,

For the brief description at the bottom of the Accommodation application form what did you write? This may seem like an overly simplistic question, but I was just interested in other responses.

Basically blabbed on about being socialable and liking noise, basically anything to get me into Rootes!

Well good luck, I'm sure they will accept that. I applied for Arthur Vick, I really want an en suite room.
I want whitefields. I said I like baking cakes and decorating them, and that I like cooking, and Monty Python, and then I described what sort of music I like and what sort I cold not stand to live with. I also put that I like my sleep and having lie-ins cos I don't think I would like to live anywhere too noisy. I can't remember what else... I think I put more. I'm not sure how much attention they pay to what you write, but I thought I might as well be specific so I might get to live with people with vaguely the same interests.

I kinda wrote a very ambiguious one. It worked in that I got into arthur vick but it wasn't so great as my flatmates (for the vast extent) and I didn't get on too well at times :frown: Also one night when we were drunk the resident tutor decided to read out what people wrote, was pretty funny.

Still, made loads of mates through societies and on my course

Mine was one or two sentences long nothing more. It seems I wrote far too little in comparison, but its too late now I can't retract my application.

ditto, i said something about wanting somewhere where i can socialise but also not too much noise that will distract me from my studies. er and something about easygoing...can't remember the rest, was too long ago.

I said I was quiet, and went to sleep early.

By the way, what did they mean by: "Do you want to live in a quiet area?" Does that refer to a quiet area within the accommodation they give you (quiet building, corridor etc.) or does it mean quiet accommodation, as in Arthur Vick rather than Rootes for example?

The Accomodation I believe.

I said about sleeping at a decent time too.

In my experience, the wee statement thing just helps them decide who to put you with, rather than where to put you. For example, I wrote that I was a quiet person and wanted to live in a quiet area but in Rootes. As it turned out, I was put with some very quiet people (who I didn't get on with, but oh well...) and was indeed in Rootes. I believe some areas of Rootes (Draycot and Gibbet houses if anyone is interested) are designated as 'quiet' areas - so for example during the exams we had to be very quiet to make sure we didn't disturb people.
As an extra note, I think most people who put Rootes down as their first choice get it - it's so big I think they can easily cater for everyone who wants to be there.
