I will be taking the train from Newcastle when I move to Sheffield, I was just wondering if there will be taxis open to anyone outside of Sheffield station that I can take without booking to get to my accommodation or whether I will need to pre-book a taxi before I get there.

Yep, there are always loads of taxis around. Walk to the left as you come out of the station and they're right there.

Hi, can anyone help with information in regards to transport from Edmund road to the university (dental hospital)

I know it's about 30 mins walk but wondered if there was a bus or tram near by for the winter?

Thanks

Depending where you are going the bus station is across the road & the tram stop is out the back of the station, cheaper than taxis
Bit of an odd question since this is all based on public transport, but would it be worth it at all to get a car? I'm hoping to get my driver's licence in the summer and have this 'deal' thing going on with the parents that they'd get me a car + cover insurance whilst I'm at Uni if I needed it. Would you say it's worth it at all?

No, I don't think it's worth it if you're living in student accommodation. The only time it would be useful would be to go to the supermarket is there isn't a good one near the student villages but you can still manage with the Tesco on Eccy Road or getting a delivery between your flat. From Endcliffe/Ranmoor it's about 30 minutes walk into uni but everyone walks that way so you'd be missing out if you drove. The buses are really cheap - they were 50p when I left two years ago but I think they're about £1 for a single now? There's buses right outside accommodation that go to the uni/town so it's really convenient as well.
This has probably been already answered on here somewhere but never mind :P do people generally walk the journey from the student villages to the main campus? I'm used to walking a fairly long way to school every day and would probably prefer to walk but I don't want to be alone in that if people generally take a bus or something. Thanks
