The government should not wash its hands on what's happening in Calais. These refugees are living in terrible conditions that we should not be seeing in civilised countries. The weather is getting colder and wetter with more storms predicted.

We should be helping provide food aid, sending in doctors, dentists and teachers to these camps and providing the inhabitants with a small allowance for buying essential items such as food, clothing, medicine etc. Cameron says he's all for social justice, well let's see him put that into, practice.

Why should we do any of those things? The people in the Calais camps could improve their lives considerably if they apply for asylum in France. Have you thought about why they haven't done so?

If they're in France and choosing not to stay they're no longer refugees but economic migrants.

No as they are not refugees.

Migrants who under normal circumstances would not be allowed into the country.

Because they will probably be rejected if they do so. It's also why they're remaining in the squalor of the gradually-destroyed camps instead of moving to the new accommodation provided months ago in the closed container area, where they'd be subject to registration and finger-printing, something that would likely force them to apply for asylum in France (which is definitely a safe country). They'd much prefer to keep themselves off the books until they are in Britain.

A lot of the conditions that we see them living in are brought onto themselves by their own commitment to get into the UK at any cost (one of the reasons why there was such a reaction from the immigrants when the parts of the "Jungle" camp near the motorway were demolished. That proximity granted them easy access to the lorries crossing the Channel into the UK).

    OP, wake up.

Refugees by choice. Remember that. They could claim help in France or any other easy to reach country.

So long as they're not in the UK, they're not our problem.

I think we should do more to help the Muslims only. We have destroyed their countries so if we had any moral compass we would give them a home in the UK
