    Hello everyone,

I live in India but am posting here since only you guys can give me an honest answer. Please read it in full and reply. It will help me a lot.

My cousin, who is 26 years old, says he has got some employment offers from recruitment agencies in UK. Those recruitment agencies posted their job offers on Gumtree. I took a look and can see that they are still posting now:

    1) https://www.gumtree.com/p/visa-servi...mit/1153614006

    2) https://www.gumtree.com/p/visa-servi...ng./1153347741

    3) https://www.gumtree.com/p/visa-servi...-uk/1151334457

    4) https://www.gumtree.com/p/visa-servi...elp/1151033175

    5) https://www.gumtree.com/p/visa-servi...am-/1153484259

These recruitment agents are asking for 10,000 Pounds as their "fee", for helping him secure his job and for upcoming processing of visa and work permit. My cousin and I are good friends and I have a good, well paying job in India. Since his parents are not well off, he his requesting me to loan him 10,000 Pounds. I am quite skeptical for 2 reasons:

    1) None of these recruitment agents have a website. They only operate through their private gmail address. They are demanding to pay the fee beforehand, before visa processing. One has said that we need to pay at least a couple of thousand pounds beforehand and the rest can be paid in installments after he arrives in UK. But what recourse would we have if these guys just take the money and run. 10,000 Pounds is a lot of money for us in India. Even 2000 Pounds is a significantly big amount for us.

    2) He got his job (Business Development Consultant) too easily. He just did some Skype interviews with some employers and got multiple job offers. He don't have any significant, high profile job experience in India. He is well educated but nothing exceptional. I know international students in UK are having a very hard time finding jobs. I know many students from institutions like Oxford and LBS who had to return. Then how come he got his job so easily?

I am really feeling skeptical. But on the other hand, I don't live in UK and don't know the reality on the ground. If these offers are scams, how are they advertising on a website like Gumtree so blatantly? Is it even possible? Are they actually genuine and I am being paranoid?

I know life is much better in UK compared to India. Though improving, we are still a third world country with a pretty brutal daily struggle while your country is one of the most developed country in the world. I am saving money for buying an apartment. It's fine if I loan it out now and get repaid after a few years but I can't afford to lose it. So please advice. What should I do now?

    Sincere Thanks

To me it sounds really dodgy. For example to work in jobs in uk care homes you need criminal record checks so wouldn't be simple to get when you don't live in the uk so you shouldn't risk your money on this.

Just as a general thing I would never look for an recruitment agency on gumtree, furthermore the fact they have no website and operate through private gmail addresses shoots off red flags everywhere, anyone requesting that kind of money would be a high profile recruiter and would definitely not be operating like that. So on balance I would say yes it probably is a scam

Bad grammar, bad spelling (the adverts I mean), yes you are probably being scammed. I have no idea what getting a visa is like but if he is looking for a student job E4S is a good site.

That sounds a bit dodgy to me as well, also the phone number appears to have the wrong number of digits for a UK number (not sure if you saw that).
£10,000 is a lot of money here as well. I have no idea why a reputable company would ask for that much.
There are lots of scams around, and while they shouldn't be advertised, gumtree is probably the place where you find most (other than the spam box in your e-mail, of course )

Scam, if your cousin wants to work in the UK, he should contact reputable recruitment companies in the UK.

Don't send the scammers any money, your cousin will not get a job and more scammers will try to get money from him because he is an easy mark.

    1. Gumtree is a site known for scammers (although there are legitmate people on there), there is no protection as its a free site.
    2. Do not trust any recruitment agency that does not have at least a website and preferably a bricks and mortar office. Eben then here are further checks.
    3. Never pay money in advance unil you have a thorough check because it could be anyone and you will have no way of getting your money back.
    4. Normal recruitment agencies here do not ask for money, they get their fee from the employer.
    5. If an offer sounds too good to be true it probably is.
    6. I'm not sure on the position from India (if I have time I can check), but I dont believe you have any right to work here in the UK unless the employer cannot find a suitable employee within the UK or EU. At the moment there is a lot of controversy in the UK about people from poorer countries in the EU coming to the UK and taking the jobs of locals.

GJ on using your brain and being rightly suspicious. Im sure you would eb equally suspicious about such an advery in India.
Thank you for setting out your problem so clearlt and with helpful detail. Its refeshing.

Ok adding to the visa, then yes he can apply for one, but what he really needs for a tier 2 is a certificate of sponsorship from an employer. from the gumtree point of view youd have no idea if that job existed or those certificates were valid.

    The points calculator is here
    https://www.points.homeoffice.gov.uk...sessment.faces

The details on tier 2 are here
