nuclear fusion

hi, my textbook says that 2 protons fuse to get a 'heavy hydrogen nucleus' with the formula 2H1 (I don't know how to write it on here but the two is above and 1 is below) but i'm confused on how you get there? why isn't it 2H2? :/

ah never mind, realised that the 'other particles are emitted' bit is most likely the reason? (:colondollar:)

All I can think of for the proton becoming a neutron is that it absorbs an electron.

This. Beta positive decay occurs during the fusion to reach a stable form. The 'Other particles' are part of this process, and include an electron neutrino and a positron :smile:
