Is my dad going to be fine?

Hey, an employee at my dad's company called us just an hour ago because my dads been taken into hospital with heart problems, but they didn't really explain specifically what it is:frown: I mean my dad is a CEO at a new company for the last 28 months and well he works a lot and he does get pretty stressed all the time. For the last 3 months its been getting worse: he frequently works 2/3 days straight, hes been suffering from chronic insomnia, he started to smoke and drink heavily (he quit 4 years ago). We all kinda thought that he can keep going a little longer and then take a year out at the end of this year but well I'm really shocked at whats going on:frown: My mum has just driven to the hospital where my dad is in London and she won't let me go with her and said that i have to look after my bro who is already 17!!! :frown:

No, he works in central London and was taken to the closest private hospital there, whilst I live about 2 hours away but I can't drive!

Sounds like they got him to hospital OK. Private hospitals have great doctors.

It's not just private hospitals that have great doctors.

We don't know what's going on with your dad, but he's in the best place right now. There are great doctors around and they will do their best to make sure that your dad is given the care he needs. I know it's frustrating but hold in there, your mum will contact you if she hears anything. Try not to worry, they will look after him.

I hope everything goes okay, i'm sure you'll hear something soon.

There are loads of things that could be wrong with him that are far less serious than the ones you'd automatically think of (heart attack etc). It could be something as innocent as bad indigestion and stress. Either way, your father's in hospital now so whatever's happening, he's in the best possible place.

^ Ditto.

Just sit tight and wait for news.

I promise you he is having the best possible care. People in Private hospitals tend to get more one on one attention because they have more time for their patients compared to NHS hospitals. Im allowed to say this coz I was doing Nursing at Uni and experienced both.

Also they will ask your dad about his lifestyle and so they will take into account the drinking and the smoking and if he is suffering from stress or highblood pressure. He will more than likely be reffered to another department who will give him some more advice on how to look after himself better.

So all you can do right now is help out your mum, stay calm and when they come home you can find out what actually happened and then if they have given advice, help him to adhere to it. Let us know what happens xxx

I'm really sorry to hear about this :frown:
I think your dad's been through a lot in a short space of time and one thing has led to another. I can relate to you in a way as my grandfather recently had heart bypass surgery. My grandad like your dad was always and still is a fairly heavy drinker, used to smoke 50+ a day and had a poor high-fat diet. Since his operation, however, he's just quit smoking altogether (ii don't know how he did it) and from that day since, cigarettes have been banned from that house.
What you need to do now is help your dad as much as you possibly can and motivate him to take more care of himself. Showing him you care (as you obviously do) will help him down the path to recovery. It'll be a learning experience, and I am positive your dad will be fine. Good luck with everything and remember we're all right behind you
Let me know how you get on

You could try finding out the number of the hospital and phoning them.

I'm sure your dad will be ok! And at least when he gets better and comes home he'll know he has an amazing supportive family around him. Like the person above said, maybe you could ring the hospital? But I'm sure your mum will call you if she hears anything? Also, I don't know if this helps but I usually find that things never turn out as bad as you're expecting them to, and I think it's human nature to imagine the worst, which I'm sure hardly ever comes true! I hope that helps and I really hope your dad is ok. Let us know how he is

yeah he should be fine, he in safe hands if anything else goes wrong! he will just need to be a bit more careful after he gets out

It was coronary heart disease, but the doctor said since he got into the hospital early he should be fine. Apparantly it was a combination of high cholesterol and very high blood pressure. They are going to do checks on him tomorow and make him stay in hospital for another week. But my dad said he might go back to work once hes out of the hospital minus the smoking and drinking.......

Exactly what my grandad had, as I said earlier
It's great that he's taken the initiative to quit his habits, and he's also lucky he's got you and your family for support. Glad everything's ok, and good luck with everything from now on

actually they are the exact same consultants as you will see i nthe NHS ...

i know of hundreds of NHS consultants who have private practice but only a hand full of consultants who no longer have NHS patients ...

At least you now know that he is in a safe place and know what is causing the illness.

Wishing your dad all the best!
