UCAS Extra Civil Engineering

Hi,about an hour ago I was rejected from Bath, my top choice uni for architecture. I was always torn between an architecture or civil engineering degree and had considered transferring courses once I was there and once I had a feel for which degree I preffered.
I currently have offers from Sheffield and Kent for architecture but I think I'd much rather go to Bath.
Therefore I've decided that applying for civil engineering at Bath through UCAS Extra might be a good idea. I was wondering whether anyone had any advice/experience with UCAS Extra and whether I'd be likely to be given an offer?
I've used the search tool and the degree at Bath is on there however I know that this isn't always reliable.
My predicted grades are A*A*A in physics, biology and maths so I'm pretty sure I've been predicted above the entry requirements (A*AA)
Thanks

Contact Bath to check if it's available and if they would be likely to accept you BEFORE going into Extra formally.

Hi,

I'm Rob, a second year civil engineer at Bath.

Sorry to hear that you were rejected. As has already been suggested, I recommend that you contact the uni. There may be nothing they can do, but at least they should be able to tell you how many places they expect will be available through Extra based on previous years. They may also be able to tell you a particular reason to why you were rejected and this may help you in the future.

The email address is: [email protected].

In the mean time, feel free to ask my any questions you may have about civil engineering or Bath. If you do, I suggest you post in my thread on the University of Bath Forum as I may miss any replies here!

All the best,

Rob

Hi, sorry I was unable to find your thread. I received an offer from Bath for Civil and Architectural Engineering however I was wondering if I would be able to transfer to Civil Engineering now. Would I have to do this before I firm my offer? Thanks

I'm confused... in your OP you said you were rejected by @University Of Bath ?
Anyway, if you have an offer from a university but now you want to change course you will need to ask that university if they will transfer you.

Uh, okay... so that's great you got a place

Did you ask about the other course? I imagine it may be full hence why they offered Civil & Architecture - but given you applied to Architecture originally, surely that's a better course for you anyway? And actually, looking at the courses it seems you only specialise in Year 4 anyway. Until then Civil and Civil&Architecture are exactly the same course.

Hi,

Thanks for your message.

Congratulations on your offer!

The two courses are very similar (possibly identical) for the first couple of years, and are part of the same department.

There is flexibility on the course that you can swap in/out of the placement year and I believe the same transfer period is available for Civil and Architecture to straight Civil. You therefore should be fine to swap once you start in September however, I would hate for you to miss out on the course swap if the policy has changed, so I suggest you contact the admission department to be sure ([email protected]).

I hope that helps. Feel free to get back to me if you have any issues.

Rob
