I have to choose between Bristol, Warwick, Edinburgh and UCL for my Mechanical Engineering course. I thought of Bristol at first as my offer came with the year abroad in continental Europe and get to learn a new language. I am also concerned about the availability of a year in industry which Bristol does not seem to help. With these criteria in mind, which of these Unis is the best?

It really depends on what you want in a university. They are quite varied in their locations, to get a better feel for them it's always best to visit the universities beforehand - as you don't want to firm and then end up going to a place which just doesn't feel right.

Look at the modules that they offer, different unis specialise in certain things or offer exclusive modules, so there's that to think about. I know you mentioned about the year abroad, this is a thing which many universities do so you're not massively limited.

I've visited all of them and the only place which I don't really like is UCL. But even so, UCL seems to be more well-known and I may have better job opportunities if I go there. But you're right. I'll pay more attention to the modules offered. Thank you.

You make a good point about the recognition of UCL, but at the end of the day you're the one who will be stuck there for 3+ years
