Hi, I'm currently working at Next PLC in Solihull and have moved house not too long ago. I have to catch 2 buses which takes approximately 2 hours getting there and 2 hours getting back home. After telling my colleagues, they told me to ask the manager for a transfer and I have done, she wasn't very happy but has said she'd contacted the managers of the stores in which I am able to work.
I guess what my question is, has anybody been in a similar position to myself?
Is it likely I could get a transfer? How long did it take?
I'm also at uni and have 4 months off after May so wanted to continue to work but needed some advice...

People transfer internally all the time. It may be your manager was unhappy because they didnt wnat to lose you or they didnt want to go through the hassle. Its soemthing I would have sorted out myself by contacting HR and finding out about transfers or even identifying th branches I wanted to go to.
Yes I think you will be able to transfer, but it depends upon a vacany becoming available at one of the new branches. It takes as long as it takes for that vacancy to become available and for them to select you to have it. That depends on staff turnover. Ask HR they might know.
Perhaps you cna discuss getting extended hours with your new branch?

I wouldn't worry about your manager being unhappy, it's a normal request, it's just going to be a faff for her to sort out. You did the right thing speaking to her rather than going over her head, it shows more respect. Whether or not you get an transfer depends on whether there's a vacancy, they may also ask you to stay for a few weeks so they can fill your vacancy.

Thanks for your help/advice! I have officially transferred to a closer branch and both managers were happy about it. I start on Thursday so I'm looking forward to it!
