It is compulsory to do two weeks work experience in July. Though I have left it a little bit late to start properly looking, I'm finding it super hard to even know where to begin.
I'm 17 - I thought it may be easier to find something being over 16.
I'm interested in doing something within Politics, as I have the intent of going to university to study politics & international relations with the interests of becoming a diplomat, work with organisations similar to that of the United Nations or a political journalist.
However, I am torn between the priorly mentioned pathway or English literature - going into a field of more general journalism or writing, so it'd be great if I could split the two weeks into two, so that I get a feel of both careers before making the decision this summer of what degree to take.
Though this is a tiny bit ambitious considering I can't even find one lot of work experience.
I heard that you could shadow your local MP for one or two weeks as work experience. Does anyone know how I could go about doing this?
Or does anyone have advice about finding work experience within these fields or even in general?

    Thanks!

From the politics side of things, I would say find out the contact details of your local MP, then drop her/him an email which just includes the fact you want to shadow them, what you are particularly interested in doing (if you have a particular interest), the dates that you are free and any other information you feel is relevant.

I'm doing the same as you but my work experience is in end June-July. I have got a week placement in a pharmacy and hopefully getting one in a hospital. All I did was, firstly, talk to your work experience teacher and ask her if she knows any place that's good to go to. If not try searching online e.g. political work experience in (the name of your city). I advice you to directly contact the place/organisation you're interested in by phone (if they have one) and try to avoid emailing them as they might be busy and might put your email to the side for a bit. If not and emailing them is your only choice, go for it! But make sure you send one early Keep researching and looking for placements and apply to more than one just in case you get turned down. ^^

MP or Councillor. Why not ask about to see if anyone does political journalism then you cover both aspects?
