I need your help - anyone know of quiet resort without Essex chavs?

Ok, so huuuge generalisation there but you know what I mean. The last holiday i went on was to San Antonio and I do NOT want to go anywhere like it again.

Budget is about £500 and I am going with a mate of mine. We just want to drink wine and read books and get brown, without some tosser singing Agadoo or millions of kids, meaty men and their meaty wives, or reps getting you up to do shots.

Has anyone been to a quiet, sunny place in Greece or Spain that they can recommend, with OK-clean accom. All inclusive ok, so long as the food is ok. By ok, I mean a variety, not burgers.

16 hours later - do I take it that I can't go anywhere in Europe without the meaty men and women?
There are plenty of really nice places in Europe. However I understand your problem, I am the same with not wanting to go to a place like that - so it does take a lot of looking for a decent place. I usually end up going out of season, cos then the resorts that are usually full, are empty.

Plus I havent been gone to Europe since January 06, as I have went to America instead and am going again this year.

My best bet would be to go and ask a travel agent - they should be able to tell you where the less loud resorts are - even if youre not planning on booking at that travel agent, just to get information from them, then go look elsewhere for the place you want.

Or check out www.tripadvisor.co.uk - the reviews and forums on there are really useful for finding out what places are really like.

Though to recommend a specific place - I would say Kefalonia in Greece, it is the next island up from Zante - Kefalonia may be a little more expensive than other Greek islands - but I visited on a day trip from Zante, (this was in peak July also) - and Kefalonia was really quite and scenic, there were bars and stuff, but it is not the clubbing resort scene at all. I would probably suggest there, plus there is loads to see on the island - like the underwater lakes.

Though Zante was also really nice, just choose the right resort - I stayed in Alikes, which is next to Alykanas - both small and nice resorts. I'm sure there are many many other really amazing Greek Islands that are great for what youre looking for - you just have to do your research. Plus, even the ones with resorts that are full of British, those islands also have resorts that are far away from the other resorts, which are really nice.

Comillas, Cantabria, Northern Spain. And lots of other places on that coast probably. Less commercial than the east coast. And very beautiful.

Ever considered one of the North African countries? Morocco, Tunisa or Egypt. I think I'm correct in saying the number essex chavs there is significant lower than say Spain/Greece.

Lumbarda on Korcula island in Croatia. Linia apartments. You can book through holiday options. There right next to the see, you can go snorkelling canoeing sailing around other islands, hire a boat or moped as well as young people(not chavs Neilson also use it as a sailing base). Also you can travel cheaply into Korcula town itself if you want to go to bars and clubs.
Though it's not technically a resort, I went to Hotel Hermes in Kamari on Santorini (small Greek island) with my boyfriend last year. It was really really quiet but all we wanted was a coupley holiday and there were definitely no chavs about - they were all on Ios when we visited there for the day  Beautiful views and very hot!
I guess you could try Corsica or Sardinia also...?

I've been to Marietta's Apartments in Rhodes twice now, and I love it. It's a small, family run hotel, 28 rooms, no kids club, medium sized pool, the staff are friendly and the whole place is quite peaceful if there aren't too many kids. It's not on the beach, and is a fifteen minute taxi ride from Faliraki (for crazy nights out and a good beach in the day) and also fifteen minutes from Rhodes Town, which is world heritage listed, and also has nightlife in the New Town which is more civilised than Faliraki.

I'd thoroughly recommend the place, and you can either book independantly (http://www.rodosnet.gr/marietta/) or via Airtours (flight and accom, that's what I've done in the past.

When I was last there there were two extended families, and a number of couples, and then me and my two friends. No old people to be seen.

The food? Is awesome, they have a charcoal grill and everything

Gah, right, I've decided it's Majorca.

Grece looks great but I think I will take my mum there as i think Spain would scare the **** out of her.

WHY oh WHY don't they have a search facilitie for "No kids" or "Kids over 12" or something. i don't want to have 2 yr olds running about.

I hope it's somewhere nice in Majorca like Soller or Palma. I've been to chavvy scumholes twice (Alcudia and Santa Ponca) and I hated nearly every minute.
Ibiza.
Why does it have to be a resort? Don't they specifically attract the chavvy types you're repelled by?

I would recommend going to Barcelona.

I want to get a tan, swim and be near a beach, and I'm travelling witha mate. Plus I have been for Barca three times in the last 6 months with work, so no to Barca. It's nice, but not a holiday unless it's on a beach and relatively quiet!
