Cs Gas Chamber Raf Halton

Anyone know about the infamous gas chamber at Halton?

I've Know that CS gas is only an irritant and will not harm you but i will make you dribble uncontrolably, your eyes and face will sting and you will need several tissue's for your nose.

The thing's we do for our country.

Im thinking of writing a day to day diary of Recriut training on posting it on here, What do u guys think, will it make good reading or will it spoil RTS for the new recriuts as they will know what to expect.

Let me know cheers and good luck to all going to RTS.

I think you should read the one Rizza Razzu posted on here a year or so ago...it does exactly that...I think you might be wasting your time otherwise!

It was titled Recruit Training - RAF Halton, if you want to look it up.

There's no secrets of what goes on at RTS...it's crap whether you know what to expect or not.

CS sucks...especially when they use 5 pellets...

I'd like to suggest this be stickied, as one of the funniest posts to emerge from the AF sections in a long time; I don't remember any funnier ones atleast....

(I don't think it's just the beer which made me laugh at that, I hope I find it equally as funny in the morning....!)

I've heard that some people can be immune to the effects is of CS gas this true?

And if you really like CS, you can look forward to visiting the gas chamber......Oh Sorry...... "Respirator Test Facility" every year when you complete your annual Common Core Skills (CCS) training...Mmmmm Great

Anyway, if it is an Respirator Test Facility, why do they make you take it off??

Apparently around 1 in 10,000 are immune to the effects of CS - Jammy Gits!

It would sort of make sense if you were joining the armed response part of the police or taking riot control training... but since we're not I don't much get it either. According to the Halton video, the mask is removed so "the recruits can feel the effects of the gas", in other words, just one more way to mess with your head and see if you cope.
I was just googling around CS gas to look something up - and most of the accounts of being gassed are very melodramatic. I always found the RTF rather a non event - the only excitement was if anyone panicked - that got quite fun - to watch! Stay chilled and it's all very straight forward, even the unmasking drills and getting a whiff of gas. Never met anyone who wasn't fine within a minute or two of exiting.

You only have to take your respirator off once. This is so you kno the effects of gas, then each year you just go in to make sure the respirator is still working.

It hardly affects me at all, I can go in say my name, rank, number, unit, sub unit and be asked questions before I start to choke a bit.

I actually enjoy it  It doesn't affect my mate at all, I know who I'll be looking to if I ever need to riot with some police

I'll be in there on Tuesday, can't wait. First week of GDT starting on Monday, going to be tough but fun at the same time.

Hi, The whole point of the RTF, is to show you that your "mask" is working and you soon find out when, you haven't put it on right.

When your at Halton doing your Regt Trg, you only remove your Mask once unless you fail and have to go back again. But once you have passed out of RTS and move to your Parent Station you do CCS "Common Core Skills" once every year or you are due OOA "Out Of Area" ie Iraq.

Mostly at your Station they ie the Regt only use a few pellets and you only remove it once or twice, to show you can do the Immediate Drills correctly.

But to be honest, CCS is a break from work and even though you hate the thought of doing it every year, once you've finished for the day and didn't get a lung full. You will look back and have enjoyed it.

I thought the chamber was to make sure you knew how to wear it properly and do the drills in a bit of realism and the RTF was that tent inner sort of thing you stand in and connect your drinking tube to and breathe heavily while they look at a laptop and "um" and "ah" at the screen?

RTS is great fun......... the RTF is not. But always good to let the guys and girls to not shake there NBC suits in the accommodation after the test... ( they gas them selfs again) ... go out side before doing so. Just remember if you get back Flightradar24 for less than 6 months you don't have to do the RTF again
