Student finance passport

Hey my passport will expire on 16th April can I use it to apply for student finance now or will it not be valid by the time they check it?

The only guidance SFE give is that you must use a current passport. Phone them up to find out if there's any leeway if you apply right now - if not then use the other identification documentation to prove your ID.
